7th September - Summer Championships Open Triples Finals Day

Congratulations to Kevin Westwell, Paul Hughes & Jeff Turner (Lauro Golf)

The morning's Semi Finals saw a very good tussle saw last years champions Brian and Shona Robinson, skipped by Liz Chapman, lose a very tight game 17-19 to Jeff Rowe, Amena Cassagne and Gary Hibbert.

In the other Semi-Final Kevin Westwell, Paul Hughes and Jeff Turner continued their excellent form to overcome Doug and Julie Hall and Juan Abeal, 18-11.

The Final was a game too far for the La Posada triple as Kevin Westwell, ably supported by Paul Hughes and Jeff Turner, swept them aside to win 16-6. The Lauro team had been in excellent form throughout with Kevin, in particular, having a fantastic tournament, playing a wide range of excellent conversion shots and precision draw bowling.

6th September - Summer Championships Open Pairs Draw Published

The Summer Championships Open Pairs is being hosted by La Posada (!2th - 15th September) and the Draw was made today.

With 19 teams entering a prelienary round was required and 3 matches will take place on Saturday 12th at 10.30.

5th September - Summer Championships Open Triples Day ONE

As always the first day on the Summer Championships produced some exciting games and excellent bowling over a full day of competition.

Day two is on Monday and there looks to be some very strong teams facing off against each other, with two Lauro teams and two La Posada teams playing their own Club mates.

30th August - Summer Championships Open Triples Draw Published

The 5th of September sees the Malaga Summer Championships begin with the first discipline being hosted by Mijas Lawn Bowls Club

20th August Summer Break Coming To An End

The start of the second half of the year's bowling activities are just about to begin again as August comes to an end and September begins.

First on the Calendar will be the 2nd September Malaga Training day when the Squad for the October Inter Provincial Match between Almeria and Malaga will be selected.

On the 5th September the Summer Championships gets under way with the Open Triples at Mijas Bowls Club.
Entries for this have to be in by Friday 28th August, and the Open Pairs by Friday 4th September

18th June - Draw for 2026 Challenge Cup Made

At yesterday's FAB Executive Meeting, the draw was made for the forthcoming Malaga Challenge Cup.
The first round will played on Wednesday 21st October, with Mijas v La Posada and Lauro v Miraflores.

18th June - FAB Executive Meeting

The June meeting took place on the the 17th June and the minutes can be read here:

Amongst many things discussed was the decision of several Clubs to enforce tighter restrictions on the footwear they were allowing on their green.
As a result the Conditions of Play for future FAB events will be changed to reflect those changes

25th May - Malaga Presidents Fours

Congratulations to Terry Stone, Bente and Tommy Dahlgren and Rob Godfrey

An eventful final day of the Presidents Fours had the Semi-Finals in the morning and the Final in the afternoon, in what proved to be a very hot day.

The Semi-Finals saw two Lauro teams facing each other but yesterday's giant killers couldnt repeat the feat today, and Kevin, Paul, Morrow and Jeff proved much to strong for Phil, Graham, Andy and Monica

The other Semi-Final saw a scratch team of Rob Godfrey, Terry Stone and Bente and Tommy Dahlgren prove too consistent for yesterdays extra end winners, Allen Gateshill, Bell McCarlie, Tom Maclean and Simon Kempster (Saydo)

The Final was expected to be a a quality game and it didn't disappoint. Bente, in particular, was very consistent (as she had been all though the competition) putting pressure on the opposition in almost every end.

The Lauro team struggled to find a good weight on their home ground and were too often just short of a length. This allowed the Rob, Terry, Tommy and Bente to post a 12-2 lead by the 6th end.

Whenever the lauro team looked like getting back into the game, Rob bowled some excellent saving bowls to either take shot or limit the loss to just 1.

This meant that although they won 5 ends in a row from ends 11 to 15 at the 16th end, they were still trailing 15-9,

This was the crucial end, holding 5 to get them back in the game, they could only watch as Rob bowled the shot of the game to take shot and a 7 shot lead into the last two ends.

The 17th end proved to be enough, holding two and trying to add to it, Kevin was unlucky to clip a short bowl on to the jack to go one down and concede the game 17-9

24th May - Malaga Presidents Fours

Round 2 of the President's 4's produced some nail biting bowling, excellent, close heads and an extra-end drama.

Simone Morgan, Pat Fisher, Mary Detheridge, John Rimmel (Mijas) held a slender 1 shot lead going into the 18th end. The game winning position changed with virtually every bowl as first Mijas and then Saydo held match winning positions.

With the two Skips to play their 2 bowls, Mijas were holding shot. Allen's first bowl took a "professional glide" off a wide bowl and dropped in for shot.

Simone's first bowl was close but not close enough. Allen's second bowl was a beautifully drawn shot bowl, leaving Saydo holding two, which was enough to take the game.
Until Simone bowled her second bowl to promote one of her own bowls. Unfortunately, while it promoted the bowl onto the jack, the jack moved slightly to leave Saydo still holding one for a draw and an extra end.

The sudden death extra end was going all in favour of the Mijas team. They were holding 4 shots with only one bowl to play. Allen's final bowl was very narrow, took a bounce off an outside wood and ended up as shot. Bowls can be a fickle game sometimes.

Monday sees the Semi-Finals in the morning. Two Lauro teams face each other in one game and saydo and a mixed Club team face off in the other. Both games start at 11.00.

The winners play each other in the Final in the afternoon, starting around 2.30.

17th May - Malaga Presidents Fours Draw Made Today

Host Club Lauro Golf Bowls Club made the draw for next week's President's Foura. !0 teams entered the competition, so 2 matches will be playes on Saturday 23rd and 4 on Sunday 25th May.

13th May - Malaga Australian Pairs Final

Congratulations to Paul Hughes and Kevin Westwell (Lauro Golf Bowls Club)

Often a Final is a disappointment after an exciting Semi-Final - but not this one. Claus and Maggen Hernehult bowled vey well, leading for much of the game against Paul Hughes and Kevin Westwell.

For both Pairs the dleayed start offered challenges. Paul and Kevin coming off a gruelling match while Claus and Maggen had to wait patiently for almost 4 hours to get back on to the green.

The ends were excellent examples of Australian Pairs play, with the shot changing constantly and the scores going first one way and then the other. The match had everything - superb draw bowling, really excellent running woods, good positional play - a lesson on the art of playing bowls.

Sadly someone had to lose and it was the experience of Paul and Kevin thattook the victory. As they so often do, they took the lead late in the game and increased the pressure over the last few ends to finish 24-14 as the Mijas Pair took risks to try to get back into the game.

A genuinely exciting Final that deserved a bigger audience.

13th May - Malaga Australian Pairs Semi-Finals

The morning's Semi-Finals could not have been more of a contrast.

One was an all Mijas contest and Maggen and Claus Hernehult made short work of the experienced but out of form, Simone Morgan and Mary Dethridge. With the score 21-4 at 12 ends, Simone and Mary conceded .

The other Semi-Final was between Lauro club mates Paul Hughes and Kevin Westwell and Morrow Horner and Robert Godfrey.

The game lasted 4 hours with dead ends, a tied end and a tie break end. This was Morrow and Rob's second match of the tournament that went to a tiebreak end.

It was an excellent match, no one could be sure of the outcome at any point. Most ends were single shots but at one stage Morrow and Rob picked up a 5 to take the lead but Paul and Kevin fought back to just one behind and then later picked up a 4 to go into the last end 18-14 in the lead.
No one gave Morrow and Rob any chance as their clubmates, holding 2, seemingly covered all the places where a 4 could happen. Rob took the jack back and somehow the 4 was theirs.

In the end, the tie break went to Kevin and Paul ... an hour after the Final was scheduled to start

12th May - Malaga Australian Pairs

The Quarter Finals produced four excellent games. Most of the games were only decided on the final end.

Horner and Godfrey were only one shot up ging into the last end against Woodings and Sheehy but picked up 2 to win.

Westwell and Hughes were two ahead against Wilson and Rimmell but added another in the final end to go through.

In the other two matches Margarit and Clause Hernehult (Mijas) beat Hazel and Phil Guttridge (Lauro) while Simone Morgan and Mary Detheridge beat fellow Mijas members Matthew Parkinson and Robin Drake.
This gives an all Lauro Semi-Final and an all Mijas Semi-Final.

11th May - Malaga Australian Pairs

The Australian Pairs contunued today with more exciting matches.

Probably the closest was between Mijas's John Wilson and Juan Abeal and La Posada's Andy Woodings and Martin Sheehy.

The game headed in to the 18th end 12-12 making the last end a sudden death shootout. John Wilson drew a dead draw toucher, which Martin Sheehy hit to spring the jack into the ditch.

The lead changed over and over as first one then another drew shot until Andy pushed one of Martin's bowls in to to hold shot, his bowl bowl holding second place. John's last bowl just fell short giving the end and the game to the La Posada players.

10th May - Malaga Australian Pairs

The Malaga Australian pairs kicked off today with 3 Preliminary matches and 3 1st Round matches being played.

The match of the day was definitely the Preliminary Round game between Mijas's Tommy and Bente Dahlgren and Lauro's Morrow Horner and Rob Godfrey.

Some fantastic bowling from the Mijas Pair gave them a big early lead but Rob and Morrow kept grinding away and 3's on the 16th and 17th ends meant they were just 1 shot behind going into the last end.

The lead changed several times as first one and then the other Pair held shot - at one point the Lauro pair held 2 shots and game but this was reduced to just 1 with the last bowl of the end. A tiebreak end was played.

Rob and Morrow were holding shot until Tommy killed the end and it had to be replayed.
In the replayed end it was a similar story Rob and Morrow holding until Bente tickled the jack back to hold shot. Rob attacked the head with his last bowl and sprung the jack back. With a yard to draw into to win Bente didn't quite get there, giving an exciting match to Rob and Morrow

8th May - La Posada Retain Malaga Spring League

In the final fixture of this year's Spring League, La Posada posted a comfortable victory over Saydo to confirm thier League title.

Remarkably, La Posada had a clean sweeep of victories, winning all 6 fictures. Congratulations on a great season!

In the other fixture Mijas and Lauro each won 2-1 at Home with Mijas edging the overall shots by 3 to wibn 8-6. It wasn't enough to prevent lauro taking 2nd place in the final League placings.

1st May - Malaga Spring League

A convincing win by La Posada over Mijas has virtually ensured the title returns to la Posada.

With only 1 week remaining they hold a 12 point lead over Lauro with 14 points to play for.

The postponed fixture between La Posada and Lauro took place today with a convincing 10-4 vistory for La Posada taking them back to the top of the League, leaving Lauro in 3rd place.

Only one fixture took place today as bad weather caused the postponement of the top of the table clash between La Posada and Lauro.

The match between Mijas and Saydo did go ahead and resulted in a 14-0 win for the Mijas team. The result catapulted them to the top of the League

The first round of the Pairs discipline saw some strong Pairs playing against each other in matches that on paper were evenly matched.

Round 2 sees the addition of those teams that got BYES into this round and some tasty matches for the spectators. None of the matches have clear favourites and all should produce some exciting bowling.

In a very entertaining Final they defeated Dave McAnn, Nigel South and Simon Kempster.

13-2 down, the Lauro team changed the Jack length and Mat position to bring about a remarkable comeback and win 19-16.

Last years winners, La Posada, increased their lead at the top of this year's table with a good 10-4 win over 2nd place Mijas.

The Triples Championship reached the Semi-Final stage today, with Lauro's Kevin Westwell, Paul Hughes and Jeff Turner winning through to face a combined La Posada / Saydo team of Dave McCann, Clive Price and Simon Kempster.

28th March - Malaga Provincial Triples Draw Released

The draw for the 2026 Malaga Provincial Championships Triples discipline was made today at hosts Lauro Golf Bowls Club

The Triples are traditionally the first discipline played in the Championships and this year will start on 5th April until the 8th April.

10th March - Joan Munt Wins Malaga Open Singles

Runner Up Doug Hall and Winner Joan Munt (both Benavista BC)

With 4 withdrawals and a retirement the field was reduced even further but Joan played extremely well, with a conmprehensive 21-13 victory over Club mate Doug Hall sealing the title.

6th March - Lauro Win Tigers Triples League

The Tigers Triples League went down to the final game of the season.
Lauro Tigers needed 5 points from their final match at home to Benavista Panthers, to pip La Posada to the title.

They won the fixture in style with a 10-0 win, to clinch the top spot and retain the title for the third consecutive year.

Meanwhile the remaining fixtures in the Lions Pairs League saw Saydo defeat Lauro 8-2 and Champions Mijas win 10-0 when La Posada conceded the match.

5th March - Spring League Fixtures Now Available

The 2026 Spring league will get under way on Friday 3rd April until Friday the 8th May. This season there will be 4 Clubs competing, playing each other twice in a 6 week season.

They will compete in a 14 player per Side League. Each week each Club will play a simultaneous Home and Away fixture.
This will consist of 1 Triple, 1 Pairs and 1 Australian Pairs at both the Home and Away venues.

Each game win will contribute 2 points (1 for a drawn game) and the combined scores of the Home and Away Matches will provide and additional 2 points to the winner (1 for a draw) for a total of 14 points.

5th March - Malaga Open Singles Draw

The Draw for the 2026 Malaga Open Singles Championships were released today. Being held at Benavista Bowls Club from Saturday 7th March - Tuesday 10th March, this year's competition attracted 20 entries.

Played in Sets Format, each game will consist of 2 - 9 end sets with a further 3 round tie break if neccessary.

28th February - Mijas Swifts Claim Lions Pairs League Victory

A rampant Mijas Swifts won their FIFTH consecutive Pairs League Championship, with a game to spare.
While they lost their match yesterday, they still gained the 4 points needed to clinch the title.
Congratulations on an excellent Winter League season.

There are still two re-arranged matches to play Mijas v La Posada on the 4th March and Saydo v Lauro on the 6th March.

28th February - Tigers Triples League Results

Yesterday's Fixtures threw up some unexpected results in both Leagues.

In the Tigers Triples League the battle for the League Champions crown took another twist. La Posada beat Saydo, 8-2 to finish their campaign in 1st place on 67 points. However, both Lauro and Mijas have still one Fixture to complete and all eyes were on the their games at Mijas. Lauro took a convincing 10-0 victory away from home, leaving them on 63 points and still having a chance to clinch their 3rd consecutive Tigers League title.
The result means they have beaten both their title rivals in consecutive weeks.

There are still TWO oustanding re-arranged fixtures.
Mijas play at home to Saydo and could still take second place if results go their way.
Lauro play at home to Benavista (who themselves celebrated a 10-0 against Miraflores yesterday) with the home side needing 5 points to win the title.

25th February - Winter League Results

Two postponed fixtures from each League were played yesterday.

In the Tigers Triples League, La Posada leapfrogged to the top of the league after a 10-0 victory away to Miraflores. This puts them 5 points ahead of Mijas and 6 ahead of Lauro with both of those teams now having a game. in hand.

In the other Tigers league ficture Saydo took full points from Benavista at home, to move up a place and are now level with Miraflores with a game in hand.

In the Lions Pairs League, Mijas couldn't quite seal the title after being held to a 5-5 draw by La Posada, while Saydo kept their slender hopes alive with an 8-2 victory away to Lauro.

Mijas will hope to clinch the title away to bottom of the table Lauro on Friday, needing just 3 points against a team they defeated 10-0 last week.

22nd February - Winter League Results

As the Winter League nears completion the Tigers Triples League continues to be a very close three horse race.

Following this week's results the lead changed again, with Mijas now top, 1 point ahead of Lauro. La Posada's defeat away to Lauro sees them drop further behind and are now 5 points behind the leaders.

Next week sees Mijas host Lauro in what could be a title deciding fixture. La Posada will be hoping for a close result in that fixture to give them a chance. They play away to Miraflores on Tuesday in their rearranged fixture and could go into the Friday round top of the League.

Mijas and Lauro both play their rearranged fixtures on March 6th.

In the Lions Pairs League another strong result by Mijasthis week puts them 21 points ahead at the top of the table.
With only 3 fixtures to play there is still a mathematical chance they could be overtaken by Saydo.
The 2 postponed matches being played on Tuesday 24th may well decide the title.

18th February - Winter League Results

One of the re-arranged Tigers Triples matches was played yesterday and it is reported that the top of the table clash between La Posada and Mijas ended in an 8-2 victory to the home side.

This result really opens up the race for the title with the top 3 sides very close - Lauro 47, Mijas 46 and La Posada 45 points. With three games still to play leaders Lauro have to play both Mijas and La Posada in the next two fixtures

13th February - Winter League Results

The rains continued to fall throughout the week and coupled with blustery conditions only ONE fixture was completed.
Miraflores losing 2-8 at home to Lauro in the Tigers Triples League.
With all other fixtures postponed it pushed Lauro temporarily to the top of that League.

The very unusual weather is creating havoc wth the League programme. All matches were postponed as greens were flooded and the storm continued unabated.

Re-arranged matches for the Tigers Triples League:
Lauro v Benavista rearranged for 6th March.
Mijas v Saydo rearranged for 6th March.
Miraflores v La Posada rearranged for 24th February.

In the Lions Pairs League the matches have been re-arranged as follows:

30th January - Winter League Results

The Tigers Triples League had their first round of fixtures after the Christmas Break, an it was business as usual for the top 3.

All three played away from home with Mijas winning 6-4 and both Lauro and La Posada winning 8-2.

In the Lions Pairs League the top of the table clash between Mijas and Saydo saw a comprehensive victory for Mijas, extending their lead at the top to 17 points.

In the other fixture a very good home win for bottom placed La Posada saw them narrow the gap to 3rd placed Lauro, to just 1 point.

16th January - Pairs League Fixtures Postponed Due To Bad Weather

The first fixture of the New year was hit by the torrential deluges of the last few weeks. All Matches were postponed and will be re-arranged as soon as possible.

5th January - Spain v Malaga Match Postponed

Sadly the Spain v Malaga friendly was called of at the last minute as the Spanish team had difficulties in raising a full side. We look forward to playing the fixture at a date to be arranged.

The next Team Malaga match will be the Inter-Provincial Championship in March.

1st January 2026 - A Happy and Healthy New year To Everyone

6th December - Pairs League

The final outstanding Pairs League match was completed today with an exciting 5-5 draw.
Three of the four games were decided on the last end, with Lauro winning 2 of them and Mijas snatching a draw on the third.
The 4th game was a runaway win for Mijas giving them the extra two points for the draw overall.
The result was enough to take Mijas back to the top of the table.

5th December - FAB Committee Meeting

The November meeting was held at Lauro on 27th November. A busy meeting with lots discussed.

2nd December - Presidents 4's Winners

J & S Wilson, K Vehmanen, H Nordling, Mijas BC

The President's Fours took place at Benavista Bowls Club between 29th November and the 2nd December.

Sadly, only 4 teams entered and the competition turned into an al-play-all round robin rather than a knockout.

The winners, an all Mijas team of J & S Wilson, K Vehmanen and H Nordling won two of their three games and drew the other to pick up 5 points.

28th November - League Results

In the Tigers Triples League, La Posada romped home to an 8-2 home victory, helped by Lauro only fielding 3 rinks.

At the mid-season break with all fixtures now complete, Mijas have a 7 point lead over Lauro at the top of the table.

In the Lions Pairs League Saydo took a 6-4 win over La Posada to partially avenge the previous week's defeat.

That win was enough to take them back to the top of the table but Mijas still have a re-aaranged match to play, this Friday away to Lauro. Only two points behind Saydo they could very well return to the top after that fixture.

22nd November- Lauro Retain The Challenge Cup

Pre-match favourites Lauro went on to comfortably win the Malga Challenge Cup Final against Saydo, 141-65.

Lauro were 26 points ahead after 4 ends on all the rinks. Rinks 1 and 2 saw them increase their lead - including a hotshot on Rink 2, Rink 3 were always in front but 4, 5 and 6 were closely contested over all 18 ends before Lauro ended winning on 5 of the 6 rinks.

21st November - League Results

What should have been the last round of the Pairs League before the Christmas break became the penultimate round thanks to last weeks postponements. A shock win by La Posada -their first of the season - against leaders Saydo caused some to look askance at their team selection.

Nevertheless the win - and a good win by Mijas against Lauro - saw Mijas take a solid lead into next weeks final game before the mid-season break.

Two of the Tigers Triples League postponed fixtures were played, with Mijas beating Benavista 8-2 and Miraflores beating Saydo 6-4.
Lauro are away to La Posada next Friday to complete the fixtures at the halfway stage.

20th November - Malaga Challenge Cup Final

This year the Final will be between defending Champions Lauro Golf Bowls Club and Saydo Bowls Club. It will be hosted by Mijas Bowls Club on Saturday 22nd November with an 11.00 start.

Saydo have not won this competition before but on current form will have high hopes to rectify that on Saturday.
Come along and enjoy an exciting finale to a great competition.

14th November - League Schedule Washed Out

The entire League schedule for today was washed out by the heavy rains that affected the Province.

The affected matches should all be rescheduled on or before the 28th November.

12th November - Malaga Challenge Cup Semi Finals

Both Semi-Finals saw unexpectedly one-sided results. Each of the winning sides won 5 of their 6 games to make it through to the Final, albeit with a couple of close results amongst them.

The Final will be on Sat 22nd between last year's winners Lauro Golf BC and Saydo BC. It will be hosted by Mijas BC with a start time of 11.00 and all 6 games will be played at that venue.

7th November - League Results

Things remain tight at the top of the Tigers Triples League, with Mijas taking an 8-2 victory against rivals La Posada bringing them to the 30 point mark. Lauro's 10-0 victory over Miraflores saw them move into 2nd place, only 1 point behind.

In the Lions Pairs League, Saydo's decison to concentrate their focus on the Pairs, is paying dividends at almost the halfway stage. They currently match favourites Mijas on 26 points, sitting at the top of the League on shot difference.

2nd November - Team Malaga Lose to Almeria

In what turned out to be a very close Match, Almeria just pipped Malaga to the victory . 16 games to 15 with 1 game drawn and a shot difference over all 32 games of +4 to Malaga.

30th October - Team Malaga Head to Almeria

The 9th Inter-Provincial Challenge Cup will be taking place at Indalo Bowls Club, Almeria on Saturday and Sunday - 1st & 2nd November.

27 bowlers from Malaga Province wiill be hoping to defend their tile and bring home the Cup once again. In what is always a closely fought match , they are scheduled to play 4 games over the two days. A gruelling test of stamina as well as skill.

29th October - Malaga Two Bowl Pairs Finals

Congratulations to our 2025 Champions
Stuart Brickley and Janet Sudworth

Heavy rain caused the postponement of the Final itself, with only 9 ends played. The score at that point was 8-7 to Saydo's Stuart Bickley and Janet Sudworth, leading Nick Cummins and Amena Cassagne of La Posada.

Play resumed this morning and a close game saw the score 12-12 after 16 ends in an exciting Final. The Saydo pair won both of the last two ends to take the title.

Wednesday sees the competition reach the Finals day. Semi-Finals in the morning followed by the Final in the afternoon

24th October - Winter League Results

The round three of the season of Winter Leagues was played yesterday.

In the Pairs league 3 of the Clubs are tied on 18 points with shot difference giving Lauro 1st place.

In the Triples league a first win of the season, at home, for Benavista saw Lauro knocked off their top spot. Mijas leap to 1st while La Posada'a better shot difference see them in 2nd.

18th October - Team Malaga Play Practice Match

As a warm-up for their Inter Provincial Trophy match, away to Almeria at the end of the month, the Malaga team played a match against a combined La Posada and Saydo team.

The Ladies played at Saydo, in the revised World Bowls format which they will be playing. This is a Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours match and this practice game gave the Selectors the chance to run an eye over their options for each discipline

The Men played at La Posada in the Triples formats and a strong performance from the opposition gave them a tough workout.

A big thank you to both Clubs and their members for their co-operation in a competitive practice match.

17th October - Winter League Results

23rd September - Summer Championship Triples

Congratulations to 2025 Champions Morrow Horner, Brian & Shona Robinson (Miraflores)

In a competition notable for so many one-sided results, the Final proved the exception.

Runners Up, Jeff Rowe, Amena Cassagne and Nick Cummins (La Posada) provided a stiff test for the eventual winners in a game that could have gone either way right up the very last end, eventually losing 19-17.

16th September - Malaga Summer Championship Pairs

Congratulations to John Wilson and Bill Neal (Mijas), our 2025 Summer Championship Pairs Winners!

John and Bill were excellent throughout the Championship, with comfortable wins in every game.
As you would expect their closest win was in the Final against Jeff Rowe and Andy Woodings (La Posada)

In a game of close heads and marginal winning ends they still emerged as deserved winners, 19-14.

The 2025 Pairs will be in the Australian Pairs format and entries can be any combination of gender or Club Affliation iwth an FAB licence still requires..

Grant Frost (Miraflores) has been appointed League Co-ordinator for the 2025/26 Season.

1st September - Summer Championships

With the start of September we see the end of the Summer break and that always means the Summer Championships

The 2025 Championships will only have TWO disciplines. The Open Pairs and The Open Triples.

The Open Pairs will be held at Lauro Golf Bowls Club from the 13th - 16th September. This year they will be played in an Australian Pairs Format.

16th June - Malaga Open Singles Championships Final

Congratulations to Jeff Turner (Lauro) our 2025 Open Singles Champion

The various Singles Competitions this year have all produced matches of the highest quality.
The Open Singles Championship Final was no exception.

Andalucian Singles Finalist, John Wilson, playing on his home green, started the game as favourite and set off in top form. Jeff Turner had also been playing exceptionally well throughout, with a lot of really close results and the ends were close heads and superb bowling from both players.

Jeff was soon piling on relentless pressure with some excellent draw bowling and John seemed to tire in the heat of the afternoon. Although the ends remained close it was Jeff who finally ran out winner, 21-16

16th June - Malaga Open Singles Championships Semi-Finals

Club mates Matt Parkinson and John Wilson gave us an excellent Semi-Final.
Matt, a relative newcomer to the competitive scene gave the very experienced John Wilson a real scare and could have deservedly won the game.

John’s experience helped him keep a calm head and a big turnaround when 3 shots - and game lie – down he trailed the jack to take the end.
On what proved to be the final end John again produced a fantastic shot to win the game 21-18.

In the other Semi-Final, both Jeff Turner and Nick Cummings were producing similarly amazing shots as they approached the sharp end of the game.

Jeff was holding 4 to win the game only for Nick to save it with his last bowl. But the next end it was Jeff who turned the end around from 3 shots down to take the two he needed to progress to the Final.

14th June - Malaga Open Singles Championships Quarter Finals

The Quarter Finals again provided some superb bowling and close games.

Jeff Turner (Lauro) had his 2nd 21-19 win in a row as he saw off the challenge from Bente Dahlgren (Mijas) in a game that could easily have gone th e other way.

John Wilson (Mijas) defeated Kevin Westwell (Lauro) in a highly anticipated game. The 21-17 scoreline once again showing the quality of both bowlers.

Nick Cummins (La Posada) had good 21-10 win against Barbara Land and goes into Monday's Semi-Final against Jeff Turner

The Quarter Final between Mijas clubmates Tommy Dahlgren and Mat Parkinson went to Mat - 21-13 - and the winner will play the other Mijas player John Wilson, in their Semi-Final.

The Final will be played Monday afternoon, following the morning's Semi-Finals.

13th June - Malaga Open Singles Championships Day 3

The Malaga Open Singles Championship is really living up to its billing.

Some fantastic bowling from everyone and some really close results. 3 games finished 21-18 and another 21-19. Amazing results.

The Quarter Finals start tomorrow morning at 10.30. All 4 games promise to be classics with a lot of high quality bowlers facing off against each other.

12th June - Malaga Open Singles Championships Continues

Day 2 saw some superb bowling right across the green. Probabaly the bowl of the day came from John Wilson (Mijas). With the game poised 20-20 and Morrow Horner (Miraflores) holding 3, John kept his nerve and with his final delivery trailed the jack into the ditch to pick up the match-winning shot.

The Malaga Open Singles Championship has been re-scheduled from March, when the torrential rain for a consecutive period of time caused it to be postponed.

31st May - Day 8 Andalucian Championships

Both the Mens Pairs and Ladies Pairs were played in the morning session.

The evergreen Pat Fisher and Simone Morgan (Mijas) faced Belle McCarlie (Saydo) and Pat Baker (La Posada) in the ladies Final. Picking up a 5 on the 1st end gave them an unexpected boost and the Mijas Pair never looked back. Pat and Belle palyed well to keep in the game but were always playing catch up and the eventual score was a 21-12 win for Pat and Simone.

The Men's Final was another master class from Nigel South and Clive Price (Saydo) against the very experienced Juan Abeal and John Wilson (Mijas).
They had bowled superbly in every round and this was no exception.
They won 5 of the first 6 ends to earn themselves a 10-1 lead and never looked like being caught.
Clive bowled well as lead and every time it looked as their opponents might pick up a good score Nigel came in to either reduce or take the end.
They finished the game deserved winners 17-11.

In the afternoon Mijas stalwart John Wilson (playing in his THIRD Final of the competition) was joined by Ladies Singles Winner Bente Dahlgren and her husband Tommy for the Mixed Triples Final.

Their opponents Ann Anderson Peter Meyerhoff and Ray Gumbley (Lauro) were seemingly unfazed by the occasion and looked the more likely to win it by the closing stages. However a bad 17th end saw them drop a 5 and go behind for the first time in the game. Despite losing a 2 on the last end, John, Bente and Tommy emerged triumphant 19-18.

Delegado Doug Hall presented the trophies to the Winners and thanked Lauro for their hospitality and all of those taking part for making it such a competitive event.

30th May - Day 7 Andalucian Championships

The Morning Session saw the Quarter Finals of the Mixed Triples.
There were wins for Morrow Horner, Rob Godfrey and Ella Moor, and they would play fellow winners John Wilson, Bente and Tommy Dahlgren in the afternoon.
Morning victories for Ann Anderson, Peter Meyerhoff and Ray Gumbley and Kevin Westwell, Ron Jones and Heather Mainwaring set up an all Lauro Semi-Final.

In their Semi-Final John Wilson's team took a good lead on the 6th end and never looked back. They ended the game with a 19-12 win.

The other Semi-Final saw a temendous fight back. Kevin's team were 16-6 up after 12 ends and their only looked to be one winner. However they never won another end and two disasterous dropped 4's on the 16 and 17th ends turned the game on the end and Ann drew in the winning bowl on the 18th to take her team into the Final, 18-16.

With John Wilson also in the Men's Pairs Final, it means the Mixed Triples Final will take place in the afternoon.

29th May - Day 6 Andalucian Championships

The Men's Pairs Semi-Finals saw John Wilson and Juan Abeal win an all Mijas Semi-Final against Ian Patterson and Ian Gray, 28-7.

In the other Semi-Final Nigel South and Clive Price beat Ron Jones and Kevin Westwell in game where either side could have won right up until Nigel's last bowl of the game. Nigel and Clive went through 16-15 and will meet John and Juan in the Final.

The Ladies Pairs Final sees Belle McCarlie and Pat Baker play Simone Morgan and Pat Fisher

Both Finals will be on Saturday at 10.30.

The afternoon session saw the 1st Round of the Mixed Triples and the winners will play in tomorrow's Quarter Finals at 10.30.

The Ladies Pairs were at the Semi-Final stage and the Mens Pairs at the Quarter Finals in todays session.

27th May - Day 4 Andalucian Championships, Singles Finals

Singles Champions Bente Dahlgren and Ron Jones

Both Singles disciplines came to a head this morning, after 3 gruelling days of competition.

In the Ladies Singles, Bente Dahlgren was in superb form and in no mood to relax, sweeping Sheila aside 21-1 in only 11 ends.

The Men's Singles was very hotly contested. Ron Jones played John Wilson in an exciting, end to end thriller, which Ron eventually won 21-19

26th May - Day 3 Andalucian Championships, Afternoon Session

The Afternoon Session consisted of both the Ladies Singles and the Men's Singles Semi-Finals.

The soaring temperatures had its effect on the games as all of the players had played tough games in the morning session.

In the Ladies Singles, Bente Dahlgren had a routine win against the less experienced Monica Toyama who will take a lot from bowling in her first major competition.

Meanwhile Sheila Wilson had a good win against Ann Anderson, who never really got started until she was 18-8 down and despite a late rally went down 21-16.

John Wilson played really well to quieten Nigel South after his heroics in his previous 2 games.
John took a comfortable 21-11 win.

Morrow Horner and Ron Jones were nip and tuck for the first few ends until Morrow took advantage of a 4 end streak to go 9-4 up after 10 ends.

They exchanged winning ends for a a while then an uncharacteristic loose end from Morrow saw Ron pick up a 4 to draw level at 12-12.

Suddenly Morrow wasn't quite finding the length and Ron took advantage to end up winning 21-13.

Both Singles Finals will take place tomorrow morning (27th) at 10.30.

26th May - Day 3 Andalucian Championships, Morning Session

The morning session saw all 8 rinks in play. There were 4 rinks of Men's Singles Quarter Finals and 4 rinks of Ladies Pairs Quarter Finals.

In the Ladies Pairs, the highlights were probably Pat Baker and Belle McCarlie's 13-11 win over Kaija Vehmenan and Sheila Wilson, where the latter Pair fought back from a 9-3 deficit to run out of ends on a winning streak of the final 4 ends.

In the Men's Singles there were several notable performances - as you would expect from this level of competition.

Morrow Horner fought back from 14-6 down to win 21-15.
Ron Jones came back from 10-4 down to 17-14 and went even further to win 21-17 against Mick Ansted.
But the pick and "match of the day" was a superb encounter between Nigel South and Kevin Westwell.

Nigel raced to an 11-0 lead, Kevin finally got off the mark and reined Nigel in to only 11-8.
Nigel went ahead again to 15-8. Kevin responded to lead 18-20
Nigel brought it level and at the ultimate end the score was 20-20

On the last end the lead changed 6 times - even the last 2 bowls,
Kevin bowled a fantastic shot to dead draw against Nigel's bowl which was an inch behind the jack.
Nigel's last bowl then rested on Kevin's to take the shot back.
Kevin played a yard on shot, hit bowl and jack but the jack bounced of a bowl behind the head and the ricochet went to Nigel.

Another fantastic game and fantastic finish.

25th May - Day 2 Andalucian Championships

Sunday saw Round 2 of the Men's Singles played over 2 sessions, 4 matches in the morning and 4 in the afternoon.

The pick of the day's games was between Rob Godfrey and Nigel South.
It was a series of one player getting a healthy lead only to see his opponent claw it back and overtake him.
The final few ends were typical: 15-13, 15-16, 17-16, 17-18, 18-18. 18-20, 19-20 and finally 19-21 to Nigel.

24th May - Andalucian Championships Opened by Mayor

Señor Joaquín Villanova, Mayor of Alhaurin de la Torre Receives Instructions on the Finer Points of Bowls from Ron Jones, President of Lauro Golf Bowls Club

The first day of the competition welcomed the Mayor of Alhaurin de la Torre, Señor Joaquín Villanova, to open the competition.
Accompanied by the councilors of Sports and Economy and Tax, Sergio Cortes and José Manuel de Molina, respectively, Señor Villanova welcomed the participants and wished them good bowling and good luck.
He reminded everyone that he was also invited to open Lauro Golf Bowls Club back in 2009 and he was pleased to see the Club and the Sport thriving.

He given a few brief instructions and then bowled a specially prepared "golden bowl" to declare the Championships officially open.

Once the games got under way we were entertained by some competitive bowling, close heads and nail-biting finishes throughout the day.

Hosted at Lauro Golf Bowls Club the Andalucians kick off with the Men's Singles tomorrow morning, with a 10.30 start time.

The afternoon session sees the ladies Singles starting at the Quarter Final stage at 13.30.

Today, BenalCala played Miraflores in the delayed final match of the Spring League. The two teams have "groundshared" thoughout the League so the slight advantages from playing home and away were largely negated.

In the event bottom placed BenalCala won their 2nd consecutive match, picking up a 9-5 victory.

While the impressive win did little for the BenalCala league position, the 5 points lifted Miraflores to 4th place, above Saydo

The draw was made yesterday for the Andalucian Championships which start on 24th May.
The competition runs for 8 days and is being hosted at Lauro Golf Bowls Club.

Despite a narrow defeat on the final day, La Posada did enough to comfortably secure the League title.

The had a 6 point lead going into this final week and the 6 points they earned against Saydo meant other results wouldn't matter.

In the other game being played Mijas scored a very good 10-4 win over Lauro to put themselves into 2nd place.
However, Miraflores could leapfrog them if they beat BenalCala by more than 10 points.
That fixture is being played on Friday 23rd May.

The final was between Andy Woodings and Martin Sheehy and Mick Asted and Billy Steele.

It was a well fought competition and definitely a game of two halves.
Mick and Billy were 11- 3 up after the first nine ends.
By the 17th end Andy and Martin and got the score back to 15- 12 to Mick and Billy.

It was all riding on the very last end, it proved to be a great match for the spectators full of entertainment and some very precise bowling from both teams.
2 Dead ends added to the final round excitment but Mick and Billy held on to win the end by 1 shot and the Competition 16-12

The Semi-Finals saw all 4 teams playing well but the 2 La Posada teams outshone the Lauro contingent.

Both games followed a similar pattern. No matter what the Lauro teams did they couldn't get shots.
Andy and Martin and Mick and Billy keeping pressure on throughout their respective games to win comfortably and set up what looked set to be an excellent Final.

With 4 high quality games in progress it was hard to know which one to follow closest.

3 of the games ended with one of the pairs taking relatively comfortable wins but once again Clive Price & Simon Kemper (Saydo) provided the most drama.

In their game against Ron Jones & Jeff Turner (Lauro) they found themselves 16-6 behind after 13 ends but 4 consecutive 2's meant they went into the last end just 2 shots behind 16-14 with high expectations of at least forcing another extra end finish.

Ron & Jeff had other ideas and were holding 2 shots until Clive's last bowl of the end clipped the jack at speed and killed the end.

In the replayed end Clive & Simon once again found themselves holding 2 and looking at that extra ends before Ron bowled in to take second shot and win the game 16-15.

FAB Australian Pairs

There were a lot of close results and none closer than the game between Juan Abeal & John Wilson (Mijas) against Clive Price & Simon Kemper (Saydo). With 2 ends to play the Mijas pair - who had led comfortably for most of the game - dropped a 3 to go into the last end with a single shot lead.

Holding 2 until Clive's final bowl took the shot and forced the extra end, they lost the extra end in much the same manner as Clive & Simon's momentum took the win 18-17.

The top of the table clash ended in a nailbiting win for Lauro who won all 3 of their home games by narrow margins plus one of their away games to win the match even though they lost the shot difference. That narrows the lead at the top to 6 points and leaves La Posada the favourites to take the title after next week's final round of matches.

Either Mijas or Miraflores could still take 2nd place if results go their way, despite trailing by 5 points at the end of Week 4.

Miraflores face a BenaCala team that recorded their first League win this week and for both teams it is technically a home ficture as they have been ground sharing throughout the Spring League season.

Local rivalry between La Posada and Saydo ensures both teeams will be determined to get "bragging rights" over next week's opponents. While Saydo can't win the League they could certainly play a big part in denying the title to la Posada.

The draw has been made for the Australian Pairs due to start Sunday 11th May at La Posada.

Being held in Almeria for the first time in many years, The National Singles has attracted a big entry of 72 bowlers - including from Malaga Province.

John Wilson, Tomas Dahlgren (Mijas) Morrow Horner and Robert Godfrey (Miraflores) are playing in the Men's Singles. Sheila Wilson and Bente Dahlgren (Mijas) are in the Ladies Singles. Games get underway on Monday 5th May.

La Posada leapt to the top of the league as they took a convincing 10-4 win over Mijas while their close rival had a heavy defeat against Miraflores.

La Posada now lead the table by 8 points over 2nd place Lauro, while Mijas remain in 3rd.

Miraflores are closing the gap as their points total leapt to 21 - only 2 behind Mijas.

With 2 weeks to go the fixtures look set to mix up the league positions drastically before the league ends.

The 2nd Week saw 3 Sides each with the maximum 2 wins. That has to change next week as La Posada and Mijas play each other, while Lauro play Miraflores.

As it stands Lauro top the table on Shot difference from La Posada with Mijas in 3rd place having won on fewer Rinks.

Both players had bowled really well throughout the Competition and the Final was eagerly anticipated.

In the first Set Simon raced to an early start, 5-0 up after 3 ends but Andy fought back to level the game 5-5 after 6 ends. Simon won the next 2, each by 1 shot before Andy again drew level to end the Set 7-7

The 2nd Set was to be just as tense. Simon went 3-1 up, Andy brought it back to 3-3 after 5 ends. Then Andy took the next 2 ends to go 7-3 up and held on while Simon managed 2 singles in the last 2 ends, the Set going to Andy 7-5 and with it the game and the Championship.

The Singles Final brings the 2025 Malaga Provincial Championships to an end. We will provide a full Championships report along with photos as soon as possible.

Belle McCarlie (Saydo) faced Andy Seymour (Lauro) in the first game. In the first 9 end set Andy got off to a flying start, being 5-1 up after 3 ends and 7-3 after 6. Belle fought back in the last 3 ends bringing herself level after 8 ends before Andy snatched the lead back to win 8-7.

The 2nd Set Belle kept the momentum going to go into the final end 8-4 and despite a 3 from Andy held on to win 8-7 and tie the game.

Andy won the first two tie-break ends to take a very exciting and entertaining game and head into the Final.

The other Semi-Final saw Morrow Horner (Miraflores) take on another Saydo player, Simon Kempster

In the first Set Simon had the edge for most of the first 7 ends leading 7-3 with 2 ends to play. However, Morrow picked up consecutive 2's in the last 2 ends to tie the Set.

In an even tighter 2nd Set neither player could make an incisive break away and the game was evenly poised at 5-5 with 2 ends to play.

Simon picked up a 2 on the 8th end and Morrow was only able to reply with a single shot on the Final end. Simon winning through to the afternoon's Final against Andy Seymour

The Quarter Finals produced some really close results as the players adapted to the rinks.

Kim Tilly and Belle McCarlie had a really close game. Kim won one set 7-5 and Belle won the other 7-6 and the tie-break ends went 2-1 in favour of Belle.

With all of the Qualifying games finished the first round proper saw 16 bowlers face off with 4 games being played in each of the morning and afternoon sessions.

The Singles starts with Area Qualifying at La Cala (Southern Area), Lauro (Central Area) and Saydo (Northern Area).

The Round of 16 takes place on Monday 21st and it and subsequent rounds will take place at La Cala.

Week 1 of the Spring league starts today. The League will take place over 5 weeks with 6 participating Clubs.

Benavista and La Cala are putting together a team by combining players from both Clubs. They will play their home games at Miraflores, due to the problems at the Benavista green.

On a busy Finals day the Semi-Finals saw close wins for Kevin Westwell and Paul Hughes (Lauro) as well as for Juan Abeal and John Wilson (Mijas), who met in an exciting Final.

John and Juan got away to an excellent start, completely blowing away the Lauro pair to lead 7-0 after 4 ends and 16-3 after 11.

At that point things started to click for Paul and Kevin and they began another of their epic fightbacks. They won all of the remaining 7 ends but a mixture of good game management, consistent bowling and a little luck the Mijas Pair held on to win 16-15.

An epic Final which kept everyone on the edge of their seats in its final stages.

A reminder should anyone need it, that the Malaga Australian Pairs call notice should be up on your Club notice boards

Australian Pairs has become a popular format in recent years and we expect a good turn out, so be sure to get your entries in.

Being hosted by La Posada Bowls Club, the competition runs from Sunday 11th May until Wednesday 14th May. Entry fees remain only 5 euros per person and the closing date for entries is Friday 2nd May.

With 5 of the 8 Quarter-Finalists being from the Host Club - and only 2 of them playing against each other - there was a real chance of an ALL Mijas Semi-Finals tomorrow. Or, of course, an equal chance of their being NO Mijas teams in there.

As it turned out the jeopardy was moved forward to tomorrow's Semi-Finals as Lauro's Kevin Westwell and Paul Hughes won through as the only non-Mijas team to get there. On their way to victory they picked up the Championship's SECOND HOTSHOT in 2 days.
Like buses, you wait for ages for one then 2 turn up together.
The timing couldn't have been better with the game poised at 9-9 after 12 ends, the hotshot 8 put the game out of reach.

Jim McCarlie and Ton McLean registered an rare competitive "hotshot" (8 shots in one end) in their game today - and still ended up on the losing side!

Elsewhere Kevin Westwell and Paul Hughes came back from 16-3 down at 8 ends, to win 23-18. Don't let anyone tell you Lawn Bowls is NOT exciting.

Hosted by Mijas Lawn Bowls Club the Open Pairs attracted an entry of 24 teams. The preliminary round was played on Sunday morning with part of Round 1 played in the afternoon.

An exciting new venue hosts its first FAB event next weekend as La Cala Bowls Club competitively opens its doors to FAB bowlers for the first time.

Most of the competitors will not have bowled at La Cala before but they can be assured of a warm welcome. The bowling is divided onto two synthetic greens, each of 4 rinks and it is expected that 2 rinks on each green will be used for the competition.

This year the competition will be in a different format - each game will be 2 x 9 Sets with the option of 3 additional ends if required.

The Final was eagerly awaited as both teams had been playing so well. In the end it turned out to be a tour de force for the Saydo team of Nigel South, Clive Price and Simon Kempster

The Semi-Finals took place this morning and proved to be a tour de force by the 2 winners.Nigel South, Clive Price and Simon Kempster (Saydo Bowls Club) and Mick Ansted, Nick Cummins and Ray Fenwick (La Posada Bowls Club) both outbowled their opponents to progress to the Final.

With both sets of Finalists having bowled consistently well throughout the Final this afternoon should be a classic.

The Quarter Finals produced some exciting games, even if the final scores didn't always reflect the quality on display.

With 2 of the 4 teams from Saydo the prospect of an all Saydo Final is very real. Hoping to rain on a Saydo parade are a team from La Posada and another from Lauro.

The first discipline in the Malaga Provincial Championships will start on Sunday 6th April.

The Open Triples is being held at Saydo Bowls Club and the draw was made yesterday and, as always, there are some very strong teams competing and the standard will be high. There is an expectation of some top quality games, so get along to Saydo and enjoy the experience.

The latest Umpires Course came to a close today. The 5-day Course was held at Lauro Golf Bowls Club and featured candidates from La Posada as well as the host Club.

The course covers all aspects of being an Umpire including a working knowledge of the Laws of the Sport, accurate Measuring of a wide range of problematic and tricky measures and a thorough understanding of the duties of an Umpire.

The course was run by Lauro's Ron Jones ably assisted by Jane Richardson and Mijas stalwart and Chairman of the Umpires Association, Bill Neal.

A Special mention to Sarah. She wasn't even supposed to be on the course. A new (virtually non-)bowler, she came down on the first day planning to meet up with a friend until the rain put a crimp in her plans.
As she was there she decided to see what being an Umpire entailed and was quickly hooked. By the last day she was studying hard and determined to pass - which she did with one of the highest scores ever recorded. She may even have to take up our Sport.

As expected Mijas clinched the Pairs League title with a comprehensive 9-1 victory over second Place Lauro.

Lauro didn't go down without a fifgt, and for most of the game 2 rinks were neck and neck with Mijas winning one in the late stages and Lauro holding on for a draw in the other. Add to a big fight back on a third 3 rink where Lauro came back from 17-9 to go into the last end 17-14 and holding 3 before a terrific shot from the Mijas Skip gave them a 18-14 win, and there was plenty to keep the result in the balance. In the end though, Mijas were deserved 9-1 winners holdibng their nerve and playing really well.

With the League and 2nd place decided, it was agreed that the postponed fixture between the 2 Clubs would be ajudged a draw 5-5 and need not be completed.

The fixtures for the Spring League have been released following yesterday's FAB Executive meeting.

There will be 6 teams entering this year - with Benavista and La Cala combining to enter a joint team, dubbed "BenaCala",

The Spring League will start on Friday the 18th April and finish on Friday 16th May.

The format will be the same as last year, with each Club playing a simultaneous Home and Away fixture.
This will consist of 1 Triple, 1 Pairs and 1 Australian Pairs at both the Home and Away venues.
Each game win will contribute 2 points (1 for a drawn game) and the combined scores of the Home and Away Matches will provide and additional 2 points to the winner (1 for a draw) for a total of 14 points.

The final scheduled game of the pairs League is set to be payed tomorrow. Mijas will play Lauro with the League title still imathamatically possible for either team.

For the first time the Malaga Open Singles Championship will be played in the Sets Format. All games will be 2 x 9 ends Sets with a 3 ends Tie-Break should it be required.

This year also introduces Area Qualifications for the first time. The region has been split into 3 Qualifying Areas, Northern, Central and Southern.

The Southern Area will have entrants from Benavista and Miraflores playing against each other. 10 people will be playing in 5 games; the 5 winners will qualify for the Round of 16 at Mijas.

Central Area brings players from host Club Mijas and Lauro to play at Mijas. As is normal the host Club has a large entry with only 4 of the 24 competitors being from Lauro. The 12 winners will compete in a 2nd round of qualifying and the 6 remaining will compete in the Round of 16.

In the Northern Area La Posada and Saydo will play at La Posada and 15 players will compete over 2 rounds, with the 4 eventual winners joining the Round of 16 at Mijas.

All of this means the Open Singles itself will take place over 2 days at Mijas - 10th & 12th March

Malaga Open Singles

Going into the final week of this season's Triples league it was probably the most wide-open in recent years.
Mathematically, any one of the top 4 were in with a chance of taking the title.

Lauro took a 4 points lead into their last game, away to Mijas, knowing that a very possible 3-7 defeat could hand Mijas the title on shot difference.
The weather forecast was not good and it was touch and go whether the match went ahead.

In the event most rinks got to 12 ends before the heavens opened and the teams struggled on in the difficult conditions but the green quickly became flooded and unplayable.
With all rinks having completed the minimum 14 ends required to constitute a completed game the Captains agreed to end the match with the scores as they stood.

This meant that Lauro won the fixture 8-2 and no matter the La Posada result against Saydo, were crowned Champions.

La Posada went into their fixture against Saydo with a 3 point deficit against League leaders Lauro, knowing they had to better the Lauro v Mijas by at least those 3 points.
The weather was kinder to this fixture and the match was completed with La Posada taking a 8-2 victory and had to hope that the Mijas home advantage helped.
This wasn’t to be and La Posada had to settle for 2nd place.

The final match of the ultimate week was played earlier in the week with neither Benavista nor Miraflores challenging for the title. Miraflores won that away fixture 8-2.

Mijas Swifts go into the last two weeks of the season in a very strong position, leading 2nd place Lauro Lions by a massive 12 points.
With each of the remaining 2 fixtures offering a maximum of 10 points there is still a possibility of an upset – especially as both of them feature the two clubs playing each other.

Week 11’s weather played havoc with the Lauro v Mijas fixture and they were forced to abandon it after only 12 ends. It will be resumed when weather and calendar dates allow.

The 2remaining La Posada / Saydo fixtures were completed earlier in the week with each Club winning their home fixture, Saydo 8-2 and La Posada 6-4.

In a thrilling final session of a rain disrupted day, Malaga marched on to a 27-21 (425 shots to 391) victory over Almeria.

As always, the games were played in a great spirit and the lead changed throughout the afternoon as various games changed end by end.

With the whole Match in the balance the Ladies teams recorded 3 wins while the Men won 2 and drew 1. The first Malaga win in the last 3 meetings between the two Provinces was also the first of those matches to be played in Malaga, after the last match was cancelled due to rain.

The Almeria Provincial Team travelled down to Malaga today in preparation for the match against Malaga in the Inter-Provincial Cup.
They spent the afternoon practising on the Lauro Golf Bowls Club green in Alhaurin de la Torre before the start of the Cup match tomorrow.

Triples League - Week 9
The results from the penultimate week of the Winter League season has left the top 4 Clubs in a `position that any one of them could win if results go there way in the final round.

While Lauro sit top at the moment their lead is a slender 3 points over 2nd place La Posada, only 4 over Mijas and a catchable 7 over Saydo.
A close match between Lauro and Mijas opens the door for both other Clubs to claim the League title.

Pairs League - Week 10
Mijas increased their lead to 12 points with 2 rounds still to go. Both of their remaining matches are against 2nd place Lauro (home and away) and a good home win by Lauro would make the final week an interesting one.
Currently tied on 36 points, neither of the other Clubs can take 2nd spot. As they also play each other home and away the battle for 3rd palce is wide open.

A reminder that the Mijas masters will be running from tomorrow. Why not go down to Miajs and enjoy a host of top bowlers displaying their skills.

Triples League - Week 8
Lauro's 10-0 win over Miraflores in the lifted them above La Posada, who lost 4-6 to Mijas. Saydo's 6-4 win away to Benavista saw them rise to 4th in the table.

Lauro host La Posada in a top of the table clash on Friday the 14th with only one point separating these Clubs.

Pairs League - Week 9
Mijas 8-2 home win over La Posada was enough to extend their lead at the top of the Pairs League to 10 points. Lauro lost 4-6 away to Saydo abd remain firmly in 2nd place.

Those same results saw Saydo close the gap on 3rd place La Posada and are now just 2 points behind.

Triples League - Week 7
La Posada's unstoppable run to the league title continued this week with a victory over Miraflores. Despite winning 3 of the 4 rinks they still found themselves behind on overall shot difference 63-65 to limit their victory to 6-4.
Lauro bounced back from last week's defeat away to Saydo to record an 8-2 home win over Benavista, the losing rink lost by 1 shot to miss out on maximum points.
Mijas also had a comfortable 8-2 home win, against Saydo, with their losing rink only 2 shots behind.

Pairs League - Week 8
In the Pairs League it is Mijas who are looking the most likely to take the title. They had a good 8-2 win away to Saydo
Lauro solidified their 2nd place with a 10-0 home win over Benavista staying 6 points behind the League leaders.

With the Christmas and New Year Break extended slightly because of the Spain v Malaga fixture, we were finally abvle to see the Winter league return

Triples League
In the Triples League a good win by La Posada against Benavista saw them extend their lead at the top of the table.
A draw between Miraflores and Mijas saw Miraflores leapfrog Lauro into 2nd place.
Lauro were forced to concede a game, when an injury forced a player to retire from the game after only 8 ends, giving away 18 shots and 2 points. Saydo went on to win 2 of the 3 remaining games, 23-17, and 13-12, (14-20) giving them a well deserved 8-2 win.

Mijas continued their winning run with a comfortable 10-0 win over Saydo, while La Posada to a 6-4 win over Lauro.

Lawn Bowls is among the top 40 most dangerous sports (Dangerous Sports - No 35) and Malaga stalwart Barbara Land became its latest victim.

Playing in the high profile Spain v Malaga match at the weekend, Barbara slipped into the ditch, fell and broke her arm. We wish her a speedy recovery.

A disappointing 2nd Day saw Malaga tumble to a 7-25 defeat on the day and 19-45 for the match.

While the measure of the defeat may seem very one sided, it was skewed somewhat by the afternoon session being used to try out some of the squad’s fringe players who had travelled for the Match.

Not that this should be taken as the reason for defeat. After all, this was the Spanish National Team – by definition the best players in the country – and a loss was both expected and anticipated.

The whole Malaga squad and the Management team should be proud of the performance - several of the defeats were painfully close - some by just 1 shot -and with a little luck ,may have gone our way.

It is hoped that both the Spanish team and Team Malaga found the fixture useful and repeat it again next year.

The first day of the match was a mixed bag as the team struggled to get to grips with the Indalo green and the unfamiliar Fours formats in the morning session.
The session ended with only two wins, both in the Singles as Andy Woodin and Ann Anderson recorded narrow victories.

The second session was to prove much more competitive as players adjusted to the faster Indalo green and the more familiar Triples and Pairs formats.

We had one good win in the Pairs and 3 in the Triples, sharing the afternoon session 8-8 - with Malaga actually shading the shots scored 133-117!

Late in 2024 it was agreed to re-introduce the Spain vs Malaga fixture that was "temporariliy suspended" in the aftermath of COVID.
Played in the "World Bowls Format" the fixture is designed to give the Spanish team a practice Match as they prepare for the coming series of International events.

Malaga also find it a useful proving ground for their squad as they prepare for the forthcoming Inter provincial Tournaments against fellow Andalusian Province, Almeria.

Following the finalisation of the Provincial match vs Almeria at Lauro a change has been required to the League schedule for the final games in the Leagues

Basically all fixtures previously set for the Friday 21st February have been moved to the Friday 28th February and the Lions games on the 28th February moved to the 7th March.

However games can be played earlier with both teams agreements - if you inform the League Co-ordinator (John Wilson) in advance.

Team Malaga Manager, Paul Hughes, confirmed today the the the Spain vs Malaga fixture has been restored.
The match willl take place January 25th and 26th at Indalo Bowls Club in Almeria.

This is a "practice" match for the Spanish team (technically National teams can only play Provincial teams in "practice matches") to help the Spanish team setlle in their squad ahead of more serious international matches.

The Malaga squad will be taking 12 men and 12 women to play 4 games over 2 days. The format will be the World Bowls format (Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours)

The Match of the round was Saydo v La Posada.
One game finished 17-17, another 16-17, 15-21 and 21-13!
With 2 wins for La Posada and 1 for Saydo and the overall shot difference (69-68) going to Saydo the match finished in a deaw?

In the other match Mijas were determined to get their revenge from last week's 10-0 defeat by Lauro and changed almost their entire team.
Only one of the team played in last week's Pairs game - but the other 7 all played in last week's Triples league.
Unsurprisingly this resulted in a 10-0 win for Mijas which was enough to take them back to the top of the table.

The tightest of Finals provided an exciting finish for the spectators and players alike.

After 6 ends 2 of Lauro's teams had yet to register a shot but the scores were still close with La Posada 34 - 27 ahead.

As both sides began to adjust to the neutral green the scores became even tighter and Lauro had taken a 65- 62 lead after 12 ends.

At 17 ends it appeared that Laro had the result in the bag, with the scores 100 - 90. However on the 18th end, across all 6 rinks, La Posada picked up 11 shots to Lauro's 3.
Lauro had won 103 - 101 to win the Challenge Cup for the first time.

Tigers Triples League - Week 5 is the last fixture for this League, before the Christmas Break

Going into Week 5 La Posada and Lauro each had 24 points and La Posada hels a better shot difference to give them the top spot.

This week saw La Posada take an 8 - 2 win away to Saydo, while Lauro could only mamnage a 6 - 4 win at home to Mijas. This gives La Posada a 2 point lead going into the break.

In the remaining fixture Miraflores overwhelmed Benavista and took a 10-9 home victory which saw them leap into 3rd place, just 1 point behind Lauro.

Lions Pairs League - Week 5 was also an interesting week in this League. Lauro took an unexpected 10 - 0 home victory over Mijas to go 8 points clear at the top of the table.
The return fixture next week looks to be a tasty match with Mijas sure to be looking for revenge and a return to the top.

The Pairs League has an addiitonal week to go before the Christmas Break and Week 6 should be another competitive set of matches

The half of the match being played at Lauro produced a couple of thrillingly close last-end victories with Saydo requiring 3 to draw each of the rinks but falling narrowly short with each only getting 2 shots.
The other rink however prevented any jeopardy at least for the home tie with a 15 shot win.

Meanhwile up at Saydo a strong Lauro side swept their oppoasition aside, with comfortable wins on all 3 rinks.

At Lauro th home side won 55 - 38 with rink scores of 22-7, 13-12 and 20-19.
At Saydo the away side's win was a slightly more emphatic 75 - 29, with rink scores of 21-10, 27 - 11 and 27 - 8.
This gave Lauro an over all win of 130 - 67.

They will join La Posada for the Final which will be held at Mijas on Saturday 23rd November with a start time of 11.00am.
All 6 rinks will play at the same time at the neutral Mijas venue.

This is a repeat of last year's final where La Posada achieved victory by 17 shots, 114 - 97 at the same venue.

The first of the Malaga Challenge Cup Semi-Finals couldn't have been more exciting.
At Miraflores the score was
La Posada 46 - 45 Miraflores with the rink scores 13-11, 21 -14 and 12 - 20
while at La Posada the score was
La Posada 57 - 56 Miraflores with the rink scores 24 - 20, 21 -15 and 12 - 21
This gave La Posada an overall score of 103 - 101

La Posada will now play in the Final against the winners of the 2nd Semi-Final which is being played by Saydo and Lauro tomorrow (21st November)

Tigers Triples league - Week 4 saw a top of the table clash between La Posada and Lauro go heavily in fasvour of the home Side, seeing them leapfrog to the top of the table - on shot difference.

Next week's fixtures see the top 2 teams playing against each other in what should be a really interesting match. In a competitive League everything could change in the table and as far down as 5th place could move to the top.

Lions Pairs League - While there was no change at the top of the table both Mijas and Lauro lost 8-2: Mijas at home to La Posada and Lauro away to Saydo.
In a League where anyone can beat anyone else, the League just gets more and more comptitive.

The Malaga Challenge Cup Semi-Finals were the lates casualty of this unusually vicious spell of rainy weather. With Red Alert Emergency warnings being issued by the Junta it was decided the sensible course was to re-arrange the fixtures with Wednesday 20th provisionally booked as the new date.

The Week 1 fixture between Lauro Golf Bowls Club and Saydo Bowls Club was abandoned after only 8 ends because of the horrendous rain,
The match was left on a knife edge with each team ahead on 2 of the rinks. The way the subsequent fixtures played out either Club could have gone top of the league with a victory.

Monday 11th November sees the latest Ladies Day being held at Lauro Golf Bowls Club

The torrential rain and the forecast for the next few days has caused the match to be cancelled.
Almeria had to make a decision about travelling and cancelling their Hotel accomodation and it was agreed that the best decision was to cancel the match. It is hoped to re-arrange it when both calendars can agree a date.

2 Bowl Pairs

With the 2-Day Competition due to played on 1st & 2nd November the squad of 15 men and 15 women was released today.

Competition is always tough for places in the squad and this time was no exception. Some very good players didn't make it into the sqaud for the November matches but with a match agaisnt the Spanish National team in January and the next Inter Provincial at the end of February, there is plent of opportuinty for those unluck this time.

Benavista host the 2023 Malaga 2 Bowl Pairs but the entry of only 10 pairs means there will be a preliminary round and then straight to the Quarter Finals, both played today.

2 Bowl Pairs

The Tigers Triples League continues to be very tight with only 3 points separatng the first 6 places - and 2 of those teams (Lauro v Saydo) have a match in hand after their first week match was rained off.

The Lions Pairs League looks to be a healthy tussle between Mijas Swifts and Lauro Lions with Mijas just in the lead with 24 points against Lauro's 22.
It is early days in this League but it already a title race worth watching.

This year's Malaga Challenge Cup got underway with the 1st Round being played today.
In the first Match Benavista played Lauro. The format sees 3 triples games at each Club's venue, with simultaneous starts.
On Benavista's green the score was 59 - 45 to Benavista, while at Lauro the home sde won on all 3 rinks, totalling 62-29. This gave Lauro the overall win 107-88.

The other ties was between Saydo and Mijas. At Mijas, Saydo brought home an excellent 59-40 win to add to their home victory of 69-36, giving them an amazing 128-76 overall win.

Lauro and Saydo will now play each other on 13th November in the Semi-Final, joining La Posada vs Miraflores who both got a bye in the 1st Round.

It looks like we could have a very competitive season ahead as early rounds of fixtures keep the league tables very evenly matched.

The first day of the Winter Leagues saw both the Tigers and Lions struggle to finish fixtures amid torrential rain on the coast. Inland the weather appears to have been kinder as both the completed fixtures were at the inland venues.

In the Tigers Triples League only La Posada vs Benavista was played to a finish, with the home team clinching a 6-4 victory.
The other fixtures will need to be continued at a later date, when games will resume with the score when they were forced to stop.

In the Lions Pairs League once again only one fixture was completed with Mijas taking the win away to Saydo, 3-7.
The other fixture was stopped after 10 ends and Lauro and Saydo will complete that at a later date.

October sees a lot of events taking place.
2nd - 5th October sees the Benavista Classic Triples
11th is the start of the Winter League for both the Triples and Pairs Leagues
23rd is the Malaga Challenge Cup 1st Round
27th is the start of the Malaga 2 Bowls Pairs, being hosted this year at Benavista

The Quarter Finals saw somesuperb bowling and very tight results as the Semi-Finals welcomed a team from Miraflores, a team from La Posada and 2 teams from Mijas, this gives a possibility of anything from an all Mijas Final to a Mijas free Final.

Mijas are hosts for this year's Open Triples and the first round got under way today

With 8 of the 16 pairs coming from the home Club it was perhaps no surprise that 6 of those teams won through to the 2nd Round, being played tomorrow.

The Semi-Finals and Finals were both played today and produced a thrilling Final.
Defending Champions Allen Gateshill and Nina McKenzie (Saydo) took a last bowl win in 2023 and this year went even closer against John Wilson and Juan Abeal (Mijas).

Allen and Nina fought back from 14-11 down (picking up a 7 along the way) to lead 18-14 but John and Juan weren't about to give up leadng to the match being all square after the allotted 18 ends.

Allen and Nina had the best of a tight extra end to retain the Championship - worthy winners once again!

16th September - Summer Championships Open Pairs Semi-Final and Final Played Tomorrow

With another set of excellent games being played today, the Open Pairs is now down to the last 2 rounds - the Semi Final will be on Tuesday at 10.30 and the Final a short time after those games finish, around 2.00pm.

Pairs from Mijas, La Posada and hosts Saydo are all representedand this stage of a tournament usually produces soem of the best bowling. Get there to support the players and enjoy the day!

The Summer Championships will get under way in September. This year there will be Open Triples and Open Pairs disciplines.

The Open Pairs will be hosted by Saydo and will start on the 14th September for 4 days.

The Open Triples will be hosted by Mijas and will commence on 21st September, also for 4 days.

The Triples League and the Pairs League will both consist of 6 teams and the fixtures will run in 2 blocks.

Block 1 will be 11th October 2024 until 22 nd November 2024, with a 2 week break on the 1st and 7th November.

In another close game the 2024 Final saw two of the previous Winners in opposition as two La Posada teams faced off.
Andy Woodings, Brian Gowthorpe, Pat Baker and Martin Sheehy outplayed Jeff Rowe, Ray Fenwick, John Dinsley and Nick Cummins to win the game 18-10 and take the title.

President's Fours

Todays Semi-Finals saw four closely matched teams battle it out for a place in the Final.
Closest was the game between Saydo's Arend Van Duyvanbode and his team against La Posada's Andy Wooding and his team, with the La Posada quartet taking a 21-20 victory into the Final.
Meanwhile current Champion Jeff Rowe found his team up against La Posada Clubmates Mick Asted in another close game which saw Jeff edge into the Final 23-16.
Tomorrow's Final should be a real nailbiter!

President's Fours

The Quarter Finals took place today with some close games and excellent bowling.
Tomorrow'a Semi-Finals see 3 of the teams from the host Club La Posada and the 4th from Saydo.

Today is the first round of the 2024 President's Fours Competition. 1 teams have entered and will compete over 4 days in a knockout competition.

President's Fours

In a Final week that had everything to play for, the top 4 positions were wide open.
The leage couldn't have been planned any better as 1st played 2nd and 3rd played 4th. With only 4 points separating the top 3 places - and 14 points to play for in a Match - the winner was impossible to predict.
Favourites were probably the leaders Lauro Golf Bowls Club with a 100% win record but La Posada in 2nd place had a history of very big wins in their victories meaning they were more than capable of overturning the meagre 2 point lead in the table that Lauro held, despite them winning more games.
Meanwhile Mijas had to play Miraflores and were hoping to take advantage of any slip between the top 2 by winning big against the 4th place side. Miraflores though had some very close results in their mathces and a win for them would not be a big shock.

As it played out 2023 Champions Lauro pulled out their best result of the season to absolutely destroy La Posada 12-2 and march triumphantly to the League title adding the Spring League to the Winter Triples League title they claimend earlier in the year.
Miraflores triumphed over Mijas, 10-4, to leapfrog to SECOND place.
Saydo and Benavista each won 3 games with Saydo edging the shot difference to win 8-6.

The Semi-Finals lived up the the high standard of the previous rounds.
Nick Cummins and Carolyn Hogarth (La Posada) got off to a flying start against Marie Carmen Foletti and Jack Gordon (Benavista) picking up two 4's and a 6 in the first 6 ends to lead 15-5! In a classic "game of two halves" Marie Carmen and Jack won 5 comsecutive ends to take a 19-17 lead - only to see the scores levelled at 19-19. The Benavista pair held their nerve to see out the game, winning the final 2 ends to make it 22-19.

Meanwhile Lauro's Phil and Hazel Guttridge were having a similarly good start in their game against Doug and Julie Hall (Benavista), winning 6 of the first 8 ends to lead 10-2.
The siutation quickly turned around to 10-10 but Phil and Hazel took control of the final 6 ends yo win 17-13. Not so much a game of two halves as a game of three thirds.

Tomorrows Final then will see Marie Carmen Foletti and Jack Gordon (Benavista) against Phil and Hazel Guttridge (Lauro) in what promises tobe another entertaining game. It starts at 2.00pm and I am sure both teams will be pleased of your support.

Once again some excellent bowling on display today - even if the scores didn't always reflect that.
Highlight of the day - an overwhelming win over fellow clubmates Lorraine Penning and Nabil Hamami who must have been expecting better after yesterday's results.
As a result of todays matches tomorrow's Semi-Finals see 2 Benavista teams play a team from La Posada and a team from Lauro in the Semi Finals.

The first day of play saw some very tight matches and some excellent bowling.
5 of the eight 1st round matches finished within 2 shots of each other.
A fantastic tussle between Bill Neal and Juan Abeal (Mijas) and Lorraine Penning and Nabil Hamami (Benavista) saw the Mijas pair surrender a 7-0 and 12-3 lead to go into the last end 15-15, eventually losing 16-15

Congratulations to our 2024 Singles Champion Simone Morgan (Mijas Lawn Bowls Club)

There will be a mix of the Preliminary Round competitors and some Round One Competitors playing in the first session of the opening day and those playing in the Prelimenary Rounds will play again in the afternoon session.

The Semi-Finals and Final will like wise be played in a Morning and Afternoon of the same day (Wednesday 17th April)

We ask all compeitiors to make sure they are aware of their start times for each day.

Malaga Provincial Pairs

The CIRE Rankings for 2023 have now been released and the Malaga Province section can now be viewed: 2023 Malaga Rankings

Every year the Malaga Province holds official FAB Competitions. The results of every competiton in the Calendar which begins "FAB" contributes to the Rankings

If there are multiple disciplines (Singles, Pairs, Triples etc.) then each discipline will count separately towards Ranking Points.

There were 2 postponed matches to get completed before Christmas and both involved Saydo.
The first involved a trip away to League leaders Mijas and the daunting fixture resulted in a 10-0 defeat for Saydo leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table with Mijas extending their lead over La Posada at the top
In the final fixture of the year Saydo welcomed Lauro with a much strengthed side containing a lot of their 1st team players
Unsurprisingly this resulted in a 10-0 win for the Saydo team - their first win of the season

The Triples League resumes on the 19th January and the Pairs League a few days later on the 24th January.

The Tigers Triples League has alreeady begun the Christmas Break so the only Matches scheduled were in the Lions Pairs League.

Bad weather on Match day caused the cancellation of the Saydo v Lauro match leaving only one fixture played.
Mijas managed a 6-4 home win against La Posada, a result which saw them go back to the top of the league - on Shot Difference!

Of course La Posada have also played one more fixture than Mijias following last week's COVID outbreak.

Kevin and Paul just edged out Allen and Nina after a tense and exciting dispaly of bowling saw the Lauro pair take a commanding lead only for Allen and Nina to stage one of their amazing fightbacks.

"Concern has been around the severe penalty of forfeiting the game and clarity in the wording of the law itself.br> Recommendations have been received to reduce the severity of the forfeit to penalising with shot deductions.
This approach would be inconsistent with any other law and was not felt to be a suitable solution.
Penalties have always existed for the displacement of a bowl by its own team players but at the time of the 2021 Laws review these penalties were not felt to be severe enough for what is considered an act of “cheating”.
Having considered several options to improve the intent of these two laws, the World Bowls Laws Advisory Group have concluded and recommended to the Board of World Bowls to rescind them.
The numbering of Law 37.1.4 will remain untouched until the next review of the Laws.
The changes to the Laws are summarised as follows:
7.1.3 If a bowl in its original course is deliberately displaced or stopped by a member of the team that delivered the bowl, the defaulting team will forfeit the game to their opponent"

We got two exciting Pairs Semi-Finals and two not quite so gripping Mixed Fours Semi-Finals.

The Mixed Fours and Ladies Singles Final will both start at 13.00.
The Men's Singles Final will start at 16.30

Graham Shoots (Zurgena) has the honour of being in all 3 of the Finals he was eligible to qualify for. Tomorrow will see him attempt to win all 3, playing successive games from 9.30 in the morning until the last game starting at 4.30 in the afternoon - a likely endurance test of around 8 hours of bowling. We wish him the best of luck in all 3 Finals.

30th March - Andalucian Championships Pairs Matches
Today saw the Pairs at the Quarter-Finals stages with 4 Men's Pairs and 4 Ladies Pairs matches being played.

The 2023 Andalucian Championships got under way at Lauro Golf Bowls Club today - 29th April.
The first disciplines to challenge the bowlers from thoughout the Region were the Men's Pairs first round and the Ladies Pairs prelimenary round.

26th March 2023 - Malaga Provincial Championships Call Notices Out Now
The call notices for all disciplines in the Malaga Provincial Championships are now with your Club.
The first Discipline is the Mixed Fours, hosted by La Posada from the 16th -19th April.

25th March 2023 - New Law Books Arrive

The long awaited World Bowls Laws of the Sport of Bowls 4th Edition is now with us.
While there are more than 60 changes from the 3rd Edition, the majority are aimed at tightening or cleaning up wording or phraseology from the previous edition.
There are, however a number of new Laws or significant changes to the Laws that Officials and players should all be aware of.
The Umpires and markers association have issed a summary of these changes and every Club and Official has received a copy.
If your Club hasn't made you aware of them, ask for a copy.
The changes can be found on the Umpires section of the web site.
The Law book itself is for sale to non-officials at the cost price of 4.00 euro. Contact your Club for details.

18th March 2023 - Tigers League Ends As Lauro Snatch 4th Place
The last game of the Tigers league was a rearranged match between Lauro Tigers and Saydo Wasps.
The game was called off in February after 3 ends due to gale force winds and torrential rain making the green unplayable.
Lauro need to win 8-2 to take 4th place from Saydo and went into the match full of confidence after a good 6-4 win at Benavista the previous day. Saydo also had their tails up fresh from celebrating an excellent 10 - 0 win away to Miraflores.
Despite some quality bowling from Saydo - especially from Terry Brooker who had "one of those days" when everything went right for him, Lauro took the Match 8-2 to take 4th place.

17th March 2023 - Lions League Ends As Lauro Claim 2nd Place
An excellent 6-2 victory in the re-arranged League match against La Posada Braves saw the Lions take 2nd spot by just 1 point from Benavista Leopards The Match resumed after heavy rain and gale-force winds forced the original game to be stopped.

Umpires and Markers Association Annual General Meeting
The final meeting in the day is for the Umpires and Markers Association. This meeting open to all Licensed Umpires in the Malaga province.
It will address items of interest or concern to Umpires and markers and we recommend all those eligible to attend do so as there are several items that will have a bearing on all association members.
It is anticipated to start at around 1.00pm following the previous meeting.

Never let anyone tell you that Lawn Bowls is boring!

13th September - Summer Championships Open Triples Final
Ther Final of the Open Triples will take place tomorrow Wednesday) at Mijas Bowls Club. The game is due to start at 10.30 and will be between a team from La Posada Bowls Club and a tean from Lauro Golf Bowls Club
Mick Ansted, Stuart Brickley and Bill Steele, (La Posada) had a close win against Arend Van Duyvenbode, Mike Sudworth and Clive Price (Saydo BC), in one Semi-Final, going into the last end 1 shot up before picking up a 2 to win 17-14.
The Lauro Triple of Ron Jones, Julian Thomas and Paul Hughes somehow found a win against another La Posada team of Jeff Rowe, Ray Fenwick and Brian Gowthorpe. Althoguh they eventually ran our 25-13 winners anyone watching the game could just as easily think the score was the other way round, so close were the margins of winning an end and losing it.
Tomorrow's Final could be a classic if both teams play at their best. Get along to watch it if you can.

11th September - Summer Championships Singles Championship - Draw Now Online

Due to start next Sunday - 18th September - at Benavista Bowls Club, the draw has been completed and can now be found online:

The Schedule will be a little unusual with 2 sessions on Sunday, one on Tuesday and the Semi-Final and Final being held on Wednesday.

This is because the fueneral of the Queen is taking place on Monday 19th and as a mark of respect it is appropriate that the competition be held in abeyance on that day. Many of our competitors also wish to watch the live coverage of the funeral.

6th September - Closing Date for Summer Championships Singles Competition Fast Approaching
Saturday 10th September is the closing date for entries for the Singles Competition, being held at Benavista Bowls Club.
Entry forms and full details are at your Bowls Club, so if you haven't already entered , don't miss out.
The draw will be held on Sunday 11th and will be posted on the website the same day, with Clubs being informed by email.

6th September - Summer Championships Open Pairs Reaches the Final Stages
Wednesday sees the Semi Finals and Finals of the Open Pairs. 2 teams from Mijas Lawn Bowls Club and one each from Lauro and Benavista will contest the Semi Finals in the morning wioth the Final scheduled for the afternoon.

4th September - Summer Championships Open Triples Draw Now On-Line
At the end of the first round of the Open triples, at lauuro Golf Bowls Club, players and spectators were invited to participate in the draw for next week's Open Triples.
Being held at Mijas Lawn Bowls Club, the Open triples has attraced and entry of 15 teams, from 5 different Clubs.
The Matches will played daily between 11th -14th September with all matches starting at 10.30.

4th September - Summer Championships Get Underway
The first Discipline of this year's Summer Championships got underway today, at lauro Golf Bowls Club.
The Open Pairs is being contested by 21 teams from 5 different Clubs.

29th August - Summer Championships Open Triples Entries
Just a reminder that the registration for entries for the Summer Championships Open Triples is currently ongoing.
Your Clubs have the entry forms available, so make sure you enter.
Closing date for entries will be Saturday 3rd September, with the Draw taking place the following day.

Again, a reminder should you need one, that this year the Entry Fees are now only 5euros per person.

The Open Triples will be hosted by Mijas Bowls Club from 11th - 14th September

Teams can be any combination of gender, all male, all female or a combination of both. However all teams members must be from the same Club and hold a valid FAB Licence for 2022

28th August - Summer Championships Draw For the Open Pairs Now Online
The draw was made on the 28th August and is now on the web page Open Pairs
A healthy entry of 21 teams has been received, spread fairly evenly from 5 Clubs. Whilst this is almost half the number of entries from the last time this event took place (2019), in the current environment with Brexit restrictions, it represents a good turnout.

3rd August - Summer Championships Begin in September
The 2022 Summer Championships will begin on September 4th. The Championships have not been played since 2019 due to the COVID restrictions of 2020 and 2021. Let's hope it has a successful return!

The first discipline will be the Open Pairs. This is a competition where teams can be any combination of the sexes. All Male, All Female or Mixed.
It will be held at Lauro Golf Bowls Club and entry forms have been sent to your Clubs today.

Subsequent disciplines will be held at other venues at weekly intervals.

2022 Andalucian Championships
The 2022 Championships have been confirmed and will be held in Almeria Province.
Because of comcerns about the September heat in previous Championships it has been agreed to change the dates this year.

The new dates will be 2nd - 9th April 2022

All Clubs now have copies of the entry forms and details of the Championships.
Closing date for entries is 28th February so get your team together NOW!

Malaga Provincial Men's Singles Winner - 27th October
Congratulations to our 2021 Winner, Mick Anstead from La Posdada Lawn Bowls Club who had a comfortable 21-12 win over Saydo's Allen Gateshill.
This completes an excellent month for Mick who adds the Singles title to his recent Triple victory.

The draw for both the Men's Triples and the Ladies Triples took place today at Lauro Golf Bowls Club.

Corona Virus Restrictions

The first full Executive Committee meeting of 2020 took place at Lauro Golf Bowls Club on 20th January. Minutes will be posted on line as soon as they are available.

Malaga Provincial Summer Championships 2019
Depending on your point of view, this is either the final competition of last season or the first competition of the new season. With a larger than expected entry, this competition was extended to 10 days (as it used to be) and is currently under way at Mijas Bowls Club.

Malaga Provincial Champion of Champions
The Competition was held at Santa Maria BC this year. Congratulations to the Winners: Joe Stamper of Benalmadena BC and Lynda Hall of Santa Maria.

Malaga Beat Almeria To Retain Trophy
- 2nd Inter Provincial Championship
Two strong squads battled it out during 4 sessions over 2 days but Malaga win it again. Match report HERE

Malaga Tigers League - Winners Santa Maria BC
The final round of games were completed on Friday March 8th and the round had a lot to play for.
At the top of the league Santa Maria needed to secure 4 points to be crowned Champions with Lauro 7 points behind them and still in with a mathematical chance of overtaking them. Lauro did all they could with a 10-0 victory over Mijas but Santa Maria took a 6-4 victory away to Benavista to deservedly clinch their first title since 2007. Congratulations to the Club and its players.
Meanwhile at the other end of the table La Posada Warriors took a comprehensive 8-2 vistory over neighbouring Saydo Wasps to move off the bottom.

Malaga Two Bowls Pairs
Held at a combined La Posada Bowls Club (Men's) and Saydo Bowls Club (Ladies) on the 3rd and 4th March.
Congratulations to winners Steve Ward and John Wilson (Mijas BC) and Wendy Pemberton and Eleanor Morgan (Benavista BC)

Malaga Challenge Cup
The Final of The Challenge Cup took place on Sunday 11th February at 10.30am, between Mijas Lawn Bowls Club and Santa Maria Bowls Club at the nuetral venue of Miraflores. Sponsored by The Sports Shop in Fuengiirola the winners were presented with the Phil Parnell Trophy. Congratulations to Santa Maria who won a close Match 107-101.
